Things to Do

While you're in Viana do Castelo, we encourage you to explore the town and enjoy its rich history and beautiful scenery. Here are a few must-see attractions:

Santa Luzia Basilica: Perched on a hilltop and accessible by funicular, car, or walking, this stunning basilica offers panoramic views of the town and coastline. Although this is where our ceremony is located, we encourage you to visit at your own time and climb to the top for a panorama of the beautiful city (considered by National Geographic Magazine to be the 3rd most beautiful in the world!)

Praia do Cabedelo: A beautiful beach perfect for a relaxing day by the sea.

Historic Center: Wander through the charming streets, enjoy the local cuisine, and soak in the atmosphere.

Kartódromo de Viana: Our favorite Viana activity! Be sure to visit this karting track and share your fastest lap time with us!

Peneda-Gerês National Park: Portugal's only national park with rugged mountains, lush forests, and crystal-clear lakes, you might even see some unique wildlife!

São Bento da Porta Aberta: Nestled in the scenic Peneda-Gerês National Park and surrounded by stunning views, São Bento is one of the most visited religious sanctuaries in Portugal. This was our second choice for our ceremony!

Guimarães: Indulge in Tiago's interests and visit the iconic Guimarães Castle that serves as a symbol of Portuguese independence.

Outside of our beloved Viana do Castelo, we encourage you to visit our home town of Ponte de Lima, the oldest town in Portugal! With beautiful gardens and incredible restaurants, the riverside town offers so much to see. You might even see us there! ;)

International Garden Festival: Held every year, the international garden exhibition is a Ponte de Lima staple that showcases creative and artistic garden designs from around the world!

Feira Quinzenal (Biweekly Market): As one of the oldest and largest markets in Portugal featuring a wide range of goods including fresh produce, clothing, livestock, household items, and local crafts, the bustling feira is one of Adriana's favorite places to visit!

Rio Lima: With riverside paths for walking or biking, canoes and kayaks to rent, and sandy beaches to swim and sunbath, the Lima River is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning view of the river and the historic Ponte de Lima bridge.
